Today I am going to show you my sons bedroom. I have talked about some of the other projects in this house that were first on our list, but Thomas' bedroom was truly the first project. It was really important to me to get his room all set up to help him with the transition into the new home. When we first moved into our new house, we ran into the couple who purchased our last home and Thomas tried to run into our old backyard and told them he wanted his old house back. :( Soooo, yeah, I wanted him to have a comfortable space that felt like his.
Here is a look at the room before we made any updates:
I joke that it is the time traveling bedroom because it is very reminiscent of Chris' room growing up down to the sweet lab sleeping at the foot of thebed. When we moved into this house we graduated Thomas to a big boy bed and I ended up purchasing the same bedding that is in Chris' childhood bedroom. My mother in law has great taste (am I the favorite in-law yet?!).
Thomas' room is filled with sentimental objects and similar to his sisters room, is filled with used furniture. We found the bed on Craigslist for $100. I know, I know, you are thinking, "but what if someone pissed in it?". Well, the price was right and I would be lying if I said there were not new piss stains on that mattress since potty training my son. #keepinitreal. There were also no visible stains and it was really comfortable. :) The nightstand was given to us by my parents from their cottage and the dresser was from Thomas' nursery.
Thomas loves to read, so I made a reading nook for him in the corner of his bedroom with a chair and table that I found at a thrift store and painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The foot stool was painted and gifted to Thomas from his Godmother, Ashley. That little Red Sox night light is from Chris' room when he was growing up...so vintage! :)
This Ted Williams print also hung in Chris' room when he was growing up. A few years ago Thomas received this from his Nana and Papa. I absolutely love it.
This piece was also a gift from Nana who stitched this for Thomas.
Here is yet another sentimental piece from the Mahoney household (they are so good at saving things!) and used to be Uncle Timmy's. Thomas loved Mickey and so Tim gave him this clock when we were visiting (along with some MIckey undies that were still stuffed in his underwear drawer...they were for a 3 year old! Sorry for selling ya out Tim, but clean out your underwear drawer.).
You don't have to spend a lot to make a room feel welcoming. I absolutely love his bedroom and smile whenever I see these old pieces that his dad grew up with.
