Sharing the color trends each year is one of my favorite posts to create! I am always so inspired after pulling together the paint color predictions and can’t help but start thinking of projects for the new year. The theme for the 2022 paint color trends is pretty clear – green is on everyone’s mind!
I love the muddy, gray-green paint colors and have even used similar colors throughout our home! Two years ago I chose Behr’s 2020 paint color of the year, Back to Nature, to paint the cabinets in our laundry room.
Earlier this year, I gave our mudroom a makeover with beadboard walls that I painted Svelte Sage by Sherwin Williams. The gray-green color looked perfect with the floral wallpaper I installed above the beadboard.
Let’s check out the green color trends chosen by the major paint brands!
2022 Color Trend Predictions
Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams
Evergreen fog is a gray-green hue that is versatile with many styles including the currently popular cottagecore style. I absolutely love this earthy green paint color and could easily see myself using it in our home. This warm green has an LRV of 30.
“From a color psychology standpoint, [green] is a color of nature and revitalization, new beginnings and growth,” she says. “As we emerge into whatever this new space is, green is emblematic of that newness.”Sue Wadden, Direct of Color for Sherwin Williams
October Mist 1495 by Benjamin Moore
October Mist is another neutral green that Benjamin Moore describes as a silvery-sage color. I really like this green option as well and it is versatile for many spaces in a home.
I absolutely love this two-toned look in the fireplace. This earthy green is said to evoke the stem of a flower, which aligns with the 2022 theme of renewal. The LRV for this muted green is 48.
Breezeway by Behr
While Breezeway reads more blue to me, Behr describes the color as a silvery green shade with cool undertones. This lighter green has an LRV of 66, so it reads much lighter than the first two colors.
This breezy blue-green looks great on an exterior door and would look lovely at a lake house.
Breakfast Room Green by Farrow and Ball
I am obsessed with this Farrow and Ball Green and need to find a way to incorporate the color into my home. Farrow and Ball describe it as a cheerful green and I completely agree. This mudroom by Ariel Oken is stunning with the wood accents painted in Breakfast Room Green. The LRV is 30, which aligns with the muddy, muted tones I am loving at the moment.
I find so much inspiration in the designs by Carlos Garcia. Below is his foyer with Breakfast Room Green on the walls.
Olive Sprig by PPG
PPG is also bringing the outdoors in with this gray-green earth tone. This versatile green symbolizes regrowth as we emerge from a pandemic world. The LRV for Olive Sprig is 42.
Blanched Thyme by Valspar
Valspar chose Blanched Thyme as their 2022 color of the year. This natural green was chosen to refocus and ground your space in the new year. This yellow-green has an LRV of 35.
“Calming and nourishing – this natural shade encourages a calm balance within yourself and within your home.”Sue Kim, Valspar® Color Marketing Manager
Guacamole by Glidden
Glidden chose Guacamole, a yellow-green for its 2022 color trend prediction. The LRV is at 36 and is very similar to the color, Quiet Park, by Behr.
