Artwork for the Dining Room | ORC Week 5

Sharing is caring!

Last Updated on January 12, 2021 by lindseymahoney

I can’t believe my dining room transformation is almost complete! To be honest, figuring out the artwork has been the most stressful part. When we moved into our home a few months ago, I made a promise to myself that I would only hang something on our walls if I absolutely loved it.

Finding the perfect artwork for the dining room | ORC Week 5

I have so many “nice” pieces of art that I have hung in our homes over the years, but I didn’t have a connection with most of them. Why did I like it? How did it speak to me? I am happy to report that this week I found the perfect pieces for the space and I love everything on the walls!

Curious about how I got to this point? Check out week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4 of the One Room Challenge!

DIY Art Ledge for Artwork & Family Photos

The back wall in the dining room was my biggest challenge in this space. I needed something substantial on the wall and I was low on budget! First I thought about doing a basket collage, then I considered a plate wall, but neither of these options felt right. Then I realized the artwork that I would love forever and be perfect in this space – pictures of my family! I really felt like adding happy photos of the kiddos would give our dining room a more relaxed vibe, which is exactly what I was going for.

Lucky for me (and my pockets), I already had a stack of black frames in our closet that would be perfect for the dining room. I have been wanting to try the DIY art ledge from Chris Loves Julia and knew it would be the perfect fit! I pulled up the art ledge tutorial and ran to the local hardware store. The only purchases I had to make were 3 pieces of pine and the wood stain. To simplify the project even further, I had Home Depot cut each board down to 80″, which was the length I wanted on my wall. When all was said and done, my statement wall cost me less than $30! This project was SO easy and I finished it in only a few hours. Check out my full tutorial on this easy DIY art ledge.

Juniper Briggs Artwork

I discovered this artist last year and absolutely LOVE everything she creates! Her paintings are bold and feminine and I was dying to get my hands on one! Luckily for me, I have an extremely thoughtful husband who bought me the perfect piece to celebrate selling our first flip house in Toledo.

When I look at this painting, I think about all of the life changes my family has made in order for me to pursue my dream and start my own business. I think about how thoughtful and supportive my husband is and has been throughout our journey these last few years. I knew that this painting would be perfect in the dining room and I couldn’t wait to put it up on the wall!

Dining Room Mirror

I wanted a large mirror over the buffet to reflect the light from the window. I found this mirror at Target and really liked the detailing on the frame.

Hanging Planters

There was one last wall to fill in the dining room! I wanted it to stand out since it can be seen clearly from the kitchen. The dining room already had a lot of art on the wall and I thought adding more frames would be overkill. I ran to my new favorite thrift store in town and found these cute hanging planters! I added moss I had on hand (who doesn’t, am I right? LOL) and picked up some air plants to add into each planter. It turned out perfect and compliments everything else on the wall so well.
