One Room Challenge Week 7 | Vintage Artwork

Sharing is caring!

Last Updated on November 10, 2021 by lindseymahoney

Welcome back to week 7 of the One Room Challenge! Incorporating vintage artwork into a design is a great way to create a one-of-a-kind space and save money. One of my favorite items to find at estate sales is artwork and included quite a few second-hand items in Evelyn’s bedroom makeover.

Fall One Room Challenge 2021 - Girls Bedroom Makeover | Building Bluebird #cottagecore #grandmillennial

For those of you who are stopping by for the first time, welcome! A few years ago we moved into our 1960’s fixer-upper in Toledo, Ohio, and have been documenting our renovations on the blog. This will be my fifth time participating in the One Room Challenge and it has been a fantastic way to complete projects in our home! Thanks for following along as I work to transform our daughter’s bedroom in 8 weeks.

Incorporating Vintage Artwork into the Design

Vintage College Prints

Chris and I found these vintage prints a few years ago at an antique store and thought they would be great for Evelyn’s room. The two prints are of girls in college and one is a little more girl while the other is a bit more “sporty”.

I carefully removed the two prints from the black matting and replaced them with white matting and frames. The white looks so nice against the warm pink walls!

Floral Oil Painting

I found this original oil painting of flowers in a vase at a local estate sale (found using estatesales.net). The painting was only on the canvas and pinned to a wall. I bought the painting and then stapled the canvas to a blank canvas frame purchased at Michael’s.

Antique Mirror

I purchased this antique, gold mirror from @thebrasslamp on Instagram. She sells great vintage items and when I saw this little mirror with the bow detailing, I knew it would be perfect in the bedroom! The patina on the mirror is beautiful!

Displaying books is another inexpensive way to add art to your walls. Book covers are a work of art and a picture ledge is a wonderful way to display them. I added the scalloped trim detail to shelving we already owned and love swapping out the books based on the season or my daughter’s favorite reads.

DIY Artwork & Vintage Watercolor

The artwork on the IKEA bookshelf is also one-of-a-kind. The framed piece on the top shelf is a watercolor painting of Paris that I found at an estate sale.

The framed “E” was a creative DIY activity that Evelyn worked on at my friend’s baby shower. The base of the artwork is a page from a cut out of a vintage botany book. We glued an E for Evelyn on the page and attached dried flowers that Evelyn picked out. A simple white frame with a white mat was the perfect finishing touch for this custom work of art.
