Painting the Walls Pink | ORC Week 2

Sharing is caring!

Last Updated on August 8, 2023 by lindseymahoney

Welcome back to week 2 of the Fall One Room Challenge! This week I chose the paint color and focused on painting the walls a beautiful, neutral pink.

Check out the design plans for my vintage-inspired girls’ bedroom in the Week 1 blog post. Here is a reminder of what my daughter’s bedroom looked like when we first moved into the home two years ago.

For those of you who are stopping by for the first time, welcome! Two years ago we moved into our 1960’s fixer-upper in Toledo, Ohio, and have been documenting our renovations on the blog.

This will be my fifth time participating in the One Room Challenge and it has been a fantastic way to complete projects in our home! Thanks for following along as I work to transform our daughter’s bedroom in 8 weeks.

Choosing the Perfect Neutral Pink Paint Color

I spent a lot of time looking at various pink paint colors before choosing one for Evelyn’s bedroom. I wanted her room to feel like a big, cozy hug, so I really wanted to find a warm, muddy pink.

My goal was to find a paint color that would work for many years to come. I narrowed it down to four options.

The painted swatch in the image below is color-matched to Setting Plaster by Farrow and Ball.

The other three options are Sherwin Williams – the top color is Romance, the center-left color is Doeskin and the bottom color is Likeable Sand.

I placed the neutral pink samples on all four walls to see how they looked throughout the day and decided on Likeable Sand.

Romance was a little too pink-y, Doeskin was a little too dark with purple undertones, and Setting Plaster was a very close match to Likeable Sand.

Prepping the Walls for Paint

This part of painting a room is another not so fun, but necessary step in the process.

First, I removed all items from the wall. Next, I removed any anchors or nails from the wall.

The room also had a cable cord that we do not use, so I removed that cord as well.

Once everything was out of the walls I filled the holes with spackle and sanded them smooth. A quick wipe down of the walls to remove the dust and I was ready to paint!

Painting the Walls Pink

The bulk of one weekend was spent painting the walls of the bedroom while my hero-husband handled the kids.

Whenever I start a painting project, I have to finish it as quickly as possible. I hate the mess that comes with painting a room and I wanted to get it all put back together with Evelyn in her room for the school week.

My least favorite part of painting a room is the ceiling! I always end up with a kink in my neck after applying two coats of paint, but I know it is an important step.

The walls got two coats of paint using Sherwin Williams Super Paint in a satin sheen. I decided to paint the walls and the trim/doors using the same sheen.

This made life a little easier and I like how it gives the room a seamless look. In smaller spaces, painting the doors in a different color, like white, can sometimes make the space feel choppy and therefore smaller.

I was a little nervous about the color at first because it looked a bit tan when I first rolled it on the walls. At this time there was a storm outside and I didn’t have any lights on.

Once it brightened up, it was the exact color I hoped for! It is definitely a chameleon color that changes with different lighting.

And here is the other side of the room taken at a different time and the following day. It looks so much darker!

Luckily, I love the color in both. of the images and so does Evie!
