1 | Scalloped Edge Floating Shelves
When I renovated my daughter’s bedroom, I knew I wanted to incorporate a curved, scallop edge into the design. I purchased scalloped MDF trim boards on Etsy and attached them to the floating bookshelves.
This DIY was super simple and added instant charm to the wall in her bedroom.
2 | Furniture with Scalloped Detail
When it comes to customizing furniture with this whimsical curve, the world is your oyster! There are unlimited ways to add this sweet scalloped feature to furniture pieces. Here are a few:
Bookshelves with Scalloped Trim
Using the same MDF scalloped trim as the floating shelves, I added a scalloped edge to the top of her IKEA bookcase. The curves of the trim add a softness and playfulness to the basic bookcase design.
Stools
I fell in love with this adorable stool at our local Home Goods store. I didn’t buy it but I made sure to snap a picture because I would love to recreate this by upcycling an old stool.
Add the scalloped trim behind the seat base, paint the frame and reupholster the seat cushion with fun striped fabric!
3 | Trim Ceiling with Scalloped Molding
For the kids bathroom makeover, I really wanted to add playful elements to the design. The easiest way to do this is by incorporating curves!
The shower room felt a little blah with the white walls, white shower tiles, white floor and white toilet. The one pop of color is the blue bathtub.
I decided to trim the ceiling with a scalloped edge to add some interest. I painted the trim the same color as the wall so it doesn’t feel like too much going on in a small space.
4 | Paint Scallops on the Wall
If a furniture makeover is not in your wheelhouse, consider painting a scalloped design on the wall. Morgan, from Charleston Crafted, painted this sweet scalloped detail in her daughters’ nursery.

4 | Scalloped Edge Throw Pillows
Adding throw pillows with a cute scalloped edge is a quick and easy way to soften a space.
If a room feels too serious or too masculine, add a few scalloped home decor items and see how it changes the atmosphere.
5 | Serving Trays
Serving trays are my favorite way to corral odds and ends that can make a room feel cluttered. This wicker tray with scallops is cute and functional!
6 | Lamp Shades and Light Fixtures
Give your lamp a little personality with a curvy lampshade! The scalloped detail can also be found on light fixtures like flush mounts and sconces, too.
I installed a scalloped fixture in the kids’ bathroom and it compliments the rest of the curves throughout the room perfectly.
7 | Charming Mirrors
I just love the pale blue, scalloped mirror from Ballard Designs. Whether you put it in a front entryway, bathroom, or bedroom, it is incredibly versatile and looks fab!
8 | Picture Frames
Picture frames with scalloped or wavy edges are a quick and easy way to incorporate this fun design trend. I think these frames with a pop of color really make them stand out.
9 | Curtains with Scalloped Edging
A simple scalloped edge on a window curtain or a shower curtain (similar) is so elegant.
In the kids’ bathroom, I added a simple, white shower curtain with a pink, scalloped edge.
10 | Rugs
Incorporating rugs with scalloped edging will be more expensive than some of the other ways to add this design trend to your home.
While a large rug will be pricier, I think it is worth it and love how it looks with a natural fiber material.
11 | Wicker Baskets
Scalloped edges on baskets made of natural materials, like wicker, always look great when paired together. It dresses up the basket and gives it a feminine touch while still feeling relaxed and not too stuffy.
These baskets are perfect in a nursery to store toys and other baby bits.
Honestly, there are so many more scalloped edging design ideas and decor options, but this is a great start! I hope this roundup has inspired you to add this whimsical scalloped detail to your home!
